Protein, The Building Blocks of the Body !

What is Protein?

Protein is one of the basic building blocks of the human body. Muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue are made mainly of protein. One of the most important things, is that protein plays a major role in all of the cells and most of the fluids in our bodies.

Proteins are made up of amino acids. There are nine amino acids that I bodies cannot produce. We have to get those amino acids from our diets. There are two different sources for protein, one is from animal proteins and one is from plant proteins.  A good rule of thumb is to get half your protein from plant based and half from animal based products.

How much protein do you need?

An average woman, under 225 lbs needs 75 to 100 grams of protein per day.  An average man under 325 lbs needs 125 to 150 grams of protein per day.  This also can vary according to age, height, and activity level.

What would happen if you do not take in enough Protein in a day?
